Iceland! Yes, Iceland. Although being a destination wedding photographer can be challenging and difficult with 10+ hours each way on a plane to get to and from your destination, the rewards can easily outweigh the effort. Unique and beautiful locations with everything brand new to my eyes, add a gorgeous and adventurous couple and you have what i call a playground for photography. Iceland and it’s capital, Reykjavik, is just one of those playgrounds, it just couldn’t get any better unless…. disco stormtroopers.
Whenever I travel to a distant location i generally try to add an extra day so i can hopefully get an extra session in. Alex and Henry were game for the extra session, so the day before we ran around Reykjavik shooting in as many locations as we could and shooting a “day before the wedding” engagement session.
Disco Stormtroopers? Yes i did mention Disco Stormtroopers, but you’ll have to go to Alex and Henry’s wedding post HERE and you will have to scroll down and suffer through a long post with a lot of images of beautiful locations, a black wedding gown, a black church and gorgeous skies, then…. at the very end – disco stormtroopers.
Alex and Henry – Iceland Engagement photography
Alex and Henry – Iceland Elopement
photos and blog by John Michael Cooper
Amazing! Amazing location, amazing couple, amazing photographer. A close friend who happens to be well respected in the wedding industry said that the word “amazing” is so overused in wedding photography blogs. We are always trying to describe our locations and couple with the word “amazing”. “what an amazing black wedding dress” “this couple is just so amazing”, “the flowers..Aaamazzing” . I guess we are also guilty of that since we tend to get so many cool clients, but lately we have been trying really hard to avoid the word. So as a destination wedding photographer traveling to a place like Iceland with a beautiful couple like Alex and Henry, how do you avoid using the word “amazing” without breaking out the thesaurus. hmmm…. not sure, let me try.
Before selecting us as their photographer, Alex searched the web for a “dark wedding photographer”, thank you google. We skyped. she said she would be in a black dress, the wedding would be in Iceland, a ceremony in a black church, plenty of time for photography with an extra day, and disco stormtrooper helmets. fuck yeah! Let me say that again: Iceland, black church, black wedding gown, beautiful couple, disco stormtroopers. FUCK YEAH!
Now to the images – i’ll just start with one of my favorites and drop the mic…
picking mic back up…After the engagement session in Reykjavik we headed to Hellnar which is in the very west of Iceland. The photographers in Iceland just have to love this place, the light is just so a, a, a lot of fun to look at..
A few getting ready shots, obligatory dress and shoe shot and we had alex and henry dress outside just before their first look.
The ceremony was in this famous little black chuch in Budir.
Amy and Connor – SPTV – Littleton, Co
So a few days ago JMC and Dalisa ran off to Denver to meet up with the rad crew at Sandy Puc’s gorgeous new studio to film a presentation for SPTV thanks to Finao Albums – AltF’s official sponsor/squad/albumcompany/friends to film some online educationals for photogs interested in either learning something new or on the search for something different and a little inspiration. It would be weird to call this “work” since we had so much fun. SPTV decided to switch it up a bit.. instead of one consecutive segment, they broke the presentation into four pieces – each being shown for a consecutive 24 hours, one day at a time. Day one was on Theory, two covered gear, three was shooting and four was all about the post production. Here, you will find photos captured on the day of, processed, completed and just all around bad ass. Amy and Connor, a real couple – not models and married just a few days past a full year were total sports, easy going and down to earth. If you want the scoop and are interested in how we made these images happen (in just 142 frames, nonetheless!!), tune in to SPTV asap!
